Meet the SLP

This week on the blog…

We are so excited to welcome Speech Language Pathologist, Haylee Tatum, M.S. CCC-SLP to KLC Pediatric Therapy! Haylee will be in the Aledo clinic serving the families in Aledo, Fort Worth, Willow Park, and surrounding areas. We are honored to have her on our team and we can't wait for you to meet her!

Tell us a little about you and your journey in becoming a SLP - where are you from, where did you go to school, what are your degrees in?

I am originally from Fort Worth and only left the area for my four years spent at Texas A&M, where I got my undergraduate degree in Child Professional Services. I commuted to Dallas for two years right after to attend graduate school at UT Dallas where I received my master’s in Speech Language Pathology. I have worked in the public schools, both elementary and middle, for the past five years. Being an SLP is truly the best job in the world!

Who in your life do you most look up to? Why?

I have always looked up to my brother. He is six years older than I am, so growing up he was always my “cooler older brother”. The older we have gotten, and the more that we have in common, this same admiration is still there. He is driven and dedicated in his work, is always a calm and steady presence, is hilarious without trying, and makes you feel like you’re the most important person in the room when he is talking to you. Thankful I get to be his little sister!

What’s your favorite place to go out to eat in DFW?

My husband and I love to go to HG Sply Co. Our favorite kid friendly restaurant is Heim by the river because it has tables outside with lots of room to run and play!

What do you like to do in your free time?

I love to ride my Peloton, go on walks around the neighborhood, or catch up on a new show. Most of my free time is spent going on fun adventures with my boys to coffee shops, parks or play dates!

Tell us a little about your family.

I met my husband during my sophomore year at Texas A&M. We got married in 2018 and now we have two sweet boys. We live close to my parents, as well as my brother, sister-in-law and their three kids. It is such a gift to be surrounded by family and we love getting to spend time all together.

Are you more introverted, extroverted, or a mixture of both?

Definitely a mixture of both. I really enjoy spending time with friends and family, but need time at home to recharge after.

What is one thing you would like families to know about you?

I know that each child I work with is someone’s entire world, and I don’t take that lightly. It is so important to me to make each child feel heard, seen and loved when I am spending time with them. I want parents to feel like an active participant in their child’s therapy progress, not just a bystander. Speech therapy is so fun, and I love getting to watch the kiddos I work with become more confident and master goals.
